Mugs Murphy is a sharply dressed 1930's style American gangster. He is also a gorilla, and anthropomorphic star of his own cartoon show in which he is the titular character. He is seen in the pre-movie cartoon in series I episode 6 Me², racing round with his famous tommy-gun and cigar. As a popular 22nd century cartoon he, like Grant Naylor themselves, is no stranger to spin-off merchandising, and features on a range of T-shirts. Mugs mug and catchphrase "D-d-don't shoot!" can be seen on a couple of Lister's T-shirts in the shows early series. Rumour has it, it was initially planned for Mugs Murphy to come to life in one of the episodes of the show and run rampant on the ship. This titbit was revealed by Craig Charles however, so should probably be taken with a pinch of  ̶d̶o̶g̶-̶f̶o̶o̶d̶  salt.
