The year? 1995. The location? BBC Studios. The need? Yet more Red Dwarf videos.
Red Dwarf: Six of the Best is a boxset containing two VHS cassettes, a CD and a fancy hologrammatic sticker of Starbug flying over a rocky planetoid landscape. One episode from each of the six series thus far was selected by Rob, Doug and Ed, to represent the cream of the crop. The first VHS, volume I, featured Future Echoes, Queeg and Polymorph, while volume II contained Dimension Jump, Back to Reality and Gunmen of the Apocalypse. Six of the best, indeedy!
Beneath the bright red box emblazoned with a mini version of the hologrammatic Starbug, you find two very understated, yet classy, black VHS cases with a shiny silver foil Red Dwarf logo. The CD case matches this minimalist design, showing perhaps some inspiration for the All The Shows Anniversary Edition DVD collection destined to come out a decade later.
The CD, exclusive to this collection, features Rob Grant, Doug Naylor and Ed Bye discussing the origins of Red Dwarf, and the history of the six lucky episodes to make the cut.
