As best I can tell, this is another real rarity! A Red Dwarf item, hand signed by Jenna Russel herself. Not even Robert Llewellyn can claim to have featured in as many Red Dwarf episodes as Jenna Russell, and yet, many fans likely don't even recognise her name. I will admit, I certainly didn't when I saw this item in Skipper's donation Post Pod.
Still not sure on who Jenna Russell is? How about if I told you that she is the lady whose voice is the first thing that most fans think of when they hear the words, Red Dwarf. Her voice practically IS Red Dwarf.
OK OK... one last clue... she wants to lie shipwrecked and comatose, drinking fresh mango juice, goldfish shoals nibbling at her toes, fun, fun, fun, in the sun, sun, sun!
That's right, Jenna Russell is none other than the person who sings the Red Dwarf closing credits theme song. The lady whose voice you have probably heard more times than you can count, and yet you never learnt her name.
Say it with me, Jenna Russell. The voice of Red Dwarf!
While we are on the topic of the theme song, did you know that the original version was actually far longer? In the documentary "Setting the Red Dwarf Music Score" created for the series VI DVD bonus features, Howard Goodall discusses and sings some verses that were abridged, and holds up a document showing an alternative version of second verse, Well, here is the full original version of the Red Dwarf theme song, as Howard Goodall wrote it:
