Series I Bytes 1 and 2 Sealed VHS Tapes

This isn't the typical thing that we have here at The Red Dwarf Online Museum, as we have already covered the original VHS releases of the show, so what are we doing dedicating a whole page do just the first series release? Well this entry is worth it's own page, believe me.
Series I of Red Dwarf was first broadcast in early 1988, with the VHS release coming a handful of years later in 1993, so to find two VHS tapes that are over two decades old, and are still sealed in their original plastic shrink wrap, is pretty smegging special!
I wasn't overly into collecting this sort of thing myself, it wasn't the purpose of this website and didn't drive my passion for archiving the existence and details around the official Red Dwarf memorablia and merchandise to have existed. But these little treasures were donated to me by Skipper, in the Post Pod. And I have to say... now I have held them, BOY do I get it!
No hands have touched these tapes, likely since they were assembled in the early 90s. The air sealed inside is air that contains the heady atmosphere of John Major's Britain. The spindles have never been wound, and the tape as never been watched.
And, to make them extra special, you may notice that both of these tapes have the first edition banner running along the bottom of the front of the case, which reads, "Never repeated on TV! Never released before on video!" Those with an eagle eye amongst you may have noticed that the other copy of Series I Byte 1 I have on VHS does not have that banner. It is a second (or later) edition!
I find myself saying, once again, thank you Skipper! 🫡
