Starbug Laser Etched Crystal Keychain

Remember that odd late 90's and early 2000's craze I told you about on the paperweight exhibit? The one about using lasers to blast little bubbles deep inside slabs of solid glass, creating little 3D images that could be viewed from all angles, forever suspended in the transparent crystalline structure, like some sort of silica-based stasis? Well, here is yet another example of that truly quite quite mad practice. For alongside the Laser Etched Crystal Starbug Paperweight, 2004 also saw the arrival of the Laser Etched Crystal Starbug Keyring!

You may think that this is a bizarre, impractical, completely random, and totally unusable piece of Red Dwarf merchandise (or "Dwarfendise"- a term I am desperately hoping will catch on), and in many ways, you would be correct. But you would also be wrong. Very wrong. Absolutely brimming over with wrong-ability. Because this is actually piece of art. An item of beauty. It fulfils all 10 requirements for being a masterpiece! It bears mentioning that any attempt to actually use it on keys will result in it chipped to bits, and your pockets / probing fingertips full of glass shards. But that just adds to the speciality of it's actuality! It is something that simply shouldn't exist. Yet here it is.
With a Starbug in it.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeextr'ordin'ry!
